Basics
What is CLAVIS?
A library for the prompts you reuse with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or any other AI tool. Save a prompt once, organize it in categories, and copy it whenever you need it — on iPhone, iPad and Mac.
Does CLAVIS send my prompts to an AI?
No. CLAVIS never runs your prompts or sends them anywhere. You copy a prompt and paste it into the tool you choose.
How do I copy a prompt?
On iPhone and iPad, tap the copy button on any row in your library, or open the prompt and tap Copy Prompt. A check mark confirms it is on your clipboard.
On Mac, select a prompt and press ⇧⌘C to copy it, or Return to use it. From any other app, press ⌥ Space for Quick Search.
What are variables?
Write a placeholder in double braces, like {{topic}} or {{tone}}. When you tap Use Prompt, CLAVIS asks for each value and copies the finished text. It remembers the last value you used.
Organizing
How do categories and subcategories work?
Each prompt can live in one category or subcategory, or stay Unfiled. Opening a category shows the prompts in it and in all its subcategories. On iPhone, edit, reorder or delete categories from the Categories tab. On Mac, right-click a category in the sidebar, and drag prompts onto a category to move them.
I deleted a prompt by mistake.
Deleted prompts go to the Trash for 30 days: Settings › Trash on iPhone, or Trash at the bottom of the sidebar on Mac. Open it and choose Restore. After 30 days they are removed for good.
Can I get back an older version of a prompt?
Yes. CLAVIS saves a version each time you change a prompt’s title or text. Open the prompt, then Version History, pick a version and tap Restore. Your current text is kept as a version too, so nothing is lost.
How do I import or export prompts?
On iPhone, go to Settings › Import to bring in Markdown, JSON or plain-text files, and Settings › Export to save your library as Markdown. On Mac, use File › Import… and File › Export Library…. You can preview everything before importing and undo it afterwards.
Sync and devices
Does CLAVIS sync between my iPhone, iPad and Mac?
Yes, through your private iCloud, for free. CLAVIS for Mac is included with the same download and the same Pro purchase. Sign in with the same Apple ID on each device and keep iCloud turned on for CLAVIS. Changes usually arrive within seconds.
My prompts aren’t syncing.
Check that you are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on each device, and that iCloud is on for CLAVIS: Settings › your name › iCloud on iPhone, System Settings › Apple Account › iCloud on Mac. CLAVIS shows the current state in Settings › iCloud, and at the bottom of the sidebar on Mac. Changes made offline sync automatically when you are back online.
What if I edit the same prompt on two devices?
If both devices changed the text, CLAVIS shows both versions and lets you keep one or both. The other version is always saved in Version History.
Can I search in my language?
Yes. Search ignores capitals and accents in any language, so cafe finds café and sirket finds Şirket. Japanese, Chinese and Korean work too, including searching inside a sentence. Type several words in any order to narrow it down.
CLAVIS for Mac
Do I need to buy CLAVIS again for Mac?
No. CLAVIS for Mac comes with the same App Store purchase, and CLAVIS Pro unlocks it too. Download it from the Mac App Store with the same Apple ID and your prompts arrive through iCloud.
How does Quick Search work?
Press ⌥ Space in any app. Type a few letters, pick a prompt with the arrow keys or ⌘1–9, and press Return. If the prompt has variables, fill them in first. CLAVIS pastes the finished text where you were typing. Change the shortcut, or turn it off, in Settings › General.
Why does CLAVIS ask for Accessibility access?
To paste into the app you are using, CLAVIS presses ⌘V for you, and macOS requires Accessibility access for that. CLAVIS uses it only to send that one keystroke. It does not read your screen, other apps or what you type.
It is optional: without it, CLAVIS copies the prompt and you press ⌘V yourself. To allow it, open System Settings › Privacy & Security › Accessibility and turn on CLAVIS.
Can CLAVIS stay in the menu bar?
Yes. The CLAVIS icon in the menu bar shows your favorites and recent prompts, with search. CLAVIS keeps running there after you close its window, so Quick Search always works. Turn on Open at login in Settings › General to start it with your Mac.
CLAVIS Pro
What does CLAVIS Pro include?
Unlimited prompts and categories, full version history, unlimited import and export, and every Pro feature we add later. The free plan includes up to 25 prompts and 3 categories. iCloud sync is free for everyone.
How do I restore my purchase?
Sign in with the Apple ID you used to buy it. On iPhone, open Settings in CLAVIS and tap Restore on the CLAVIS Pro card. On Mac, open Settings › CLAVIS Pro › Restore Purchases.
How do I cancel?
Open Settings › Manage Subscription in CLAVIS, or your Apple subscriptions (iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions; Mac: App Store › your name › Account Settings). Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date. Pro stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
What happens to my prompts if Pro ends?
Nothing is deleted. Every prompt stays readable and copyable. You just can’t add new prompts beyond the free limit until you renew.
